Why I Love Working with Repurposed Materials
Why I Love Working with Repurposed Materials
When you finish a project and have odds and ends leftover, what do you do with them? Throw them in the trash? Give them to a friend? Repurpose them into a new project?
I pick option 3.
Many of my pieces begin with repurposed fabric or leftover threads. Working this way removes the pressure to make something “precious” and allows the process to feel more exploratory and meaningful.
When materials already have a history, the stitching becomes part of an ongoing story rather than a performance of perfection.
I also love the feeling that I'm hurting the world a little bit less.
Helpful tip: we have an art "thrift store" in town. You can donate materials or get materials. Ours is pay what you can. I have gotten so much fabric, thread and supplies from this place. Make sure you check with your town to see if you have one. Or you can always start your own!
